One way to make out of town guests feel welcome in another city, especially if they’ve never been to, is a welcome bag. A welcome bag typically includes some of the couple’s favorite snacks, some libation (because who doesn’t like that), a guide to the city and other fun stuff they think their guests will love. What I love about welcome bags is how the couple’s personality shines through what is in the bag.
Chicago is home to a lot of different cultures. But we all come together and have come to love the best of what locals make. Second guessing yourself on what to put in the guest bag? Here’s an idea that will make your guests welcome in Chicago!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Custom printed paper bag or tote bags – You can find Etsy vendors who are able to make these. You can also use tote canvas bags so that your guests will be able to reuse them in the future.
Favorite locally brewed beer/liquor – Got a favorite brew? Make sure to include it in your bag to share it with your beloved ones!
Malort Marshmallows – Can we all agree that this is a better way of having Malort instead of drinking it straight up? LOL
Mints in Chicago Bears colors – For just in case moments
A printed guide to Chicago – List down any tourist spots like The Bean, Mag Mile, and spots were the locals hang out. Include a few of your favorite places too!
Welcome/Thank You card – Don’t forget this! Your guests have traveled lots of miles just to attend your wedding. A personalized Welcome and Thank You card is always appreciated.
It’s totally up to you on how simple or extravagant your welcome bags will be. Make sure you set a budget for the bags or else it might get out of hand really quickly because of the different items you need to buy. When trying to figure out on how many welcome bags you need to make, refer to the number of hotel rooms you have blocked off for your wedding. It’s only one welcome bag for each room, not each guest.
Ask your hotel concierge if they are able to distribute the welcome bags when your guests arrive. They may or may not have a delivery fee so be sure to ask about this too.
How fun is the Malort flavored marshmallows from XO. Marshmallow? Although Malort has a reputation of not being the best tasting liquor, Chicagoans are obsessed with it. According to the tradition, Malort is a “rite of passage”.
If you’re a true blue Chicagoan and would like to get your hand on these fun mallows, please contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org. They also have custom event packages and s’mores bars that would be perfect for any wedding.
